Rovers take a tumble

Gresley Rovers’ title hopes were dented by a 4-1 drubbing at rivals Chasetown on Saturday.
Injury was added to insult when midfielder Ryan Venning suffered a collarbone wound to add to defender Frank Nuttall’s first half calf strain.

But Rovers have boosted their squad by recruiting Wembley hero Steve Astley, who has rejoined the club from Wednesfield.

That was scant consolation for manager Frank Northwood on Saturday, however.

He said afterwards: “There was no commitment, no anything. But why I don’t know. We could have pulled a couple of goals back in the second half but decisions went against us.”
