Gresley Rovers are on course for a second consecutive West Midlands League double – and a return to Wembley!
So says chairman Peter Hall as the crest-of-the-wave Moat Ground club approach 1992 with optimism for the future supremely high.

Said Hall today: “Everything is going marvellously well, both on and off the field. On the playing side, there have been big changes in the team to bring down the average age. Only one of last season’s Wembley back four is currently in the side, for example.

“But we had to have an injection of youth and I give full credit to the manager for bringing it about, although I’m not overlooking the fact that Brian Beresford is still knocking in the goals at 37 years of age!

“Things are shaping up so well at the moment I’m sure we will win the league again. And the way we’re playing we could very easily go back to Wembley, provided we have that little bit of luck we enjoyed last season.

“The lads certainly showed they had the character by bouncing back to win at Berkhamsted last Saturday.”

Off the field, says Hall, things are going equally well, with plans afoot for more community involvement in the New Year.

“We are refurbishing the social club and plan to stage functions after we have completed redecoration. We’re hoping the community will get involved with us even more than at present.

“The new hospitality lounge is up and running as is the club shop, and we will be selling a new line in club tracksuits starting this Saturday. The canteen is also doing well thanks to the hard work of the staff.”

Hall paid a seasonal tribute to his hard-working committee men especially club development officer Frank McArdle.

“He has done a terrific job on the commercial side for us and made a big, big difference. But the rest of the committee have worked very hard while people from outside the club are queuing up to help which shows how well things are going.”
