Gresley Rovers manager Frank Northwood finds himself on the horns of a dilemma today – 24 hours before his team’s clash with table topping Stourport Swifts at the Moat Ground.
Northwood faces the sort of problem that all managers claim they love to have – who to play and who to leave out.

The veteran boss delayed the inevitable last night by naming no fewer than 17 players in his squad.

But after seeing his side produce what he described as “our best form of the season” in overcoming Chasetown on Tuesday. Northwood must decide whether to stick to a winning formula or bring back fit-again defender Gil Land.

Land, a virtual ever-present over the last two seasons, sat out Tuesday’s game with a leg injury but is expecting to be raring to go tomorrow.

The question is: if Land returns, who sits it out?

Said Northwood: “Stuart Evans has come into the side and he’s looked the quality player we knew we were signing back in August.

“I’m obviously very pleased with him. When we signed Stuart from Wolves, Sammy Chapman told me he felt he would be back in pro football within six months. I still believe he was right.”

Willenhall, Oldbury and Halesowen Harriers have all tried to lure Evans away but Northwood has refused to let go of his potential prize asset, insisting: “Good centre halves are hard to find. He enjoyed playing with Gil helping him through games. But Dean Page has been fighting for a place and has done ever so well. It’s a hard job deciding whether to stick with what you’ve got or to strengthen the side.

“Well, I’ve always thought that, if you can strengthen your side, then you should. We’ll sit down on Saturday and discuss it before making a decision.”
