Merthyr pre-match news
Central defender Stuart Evans could be a surprise inclusion in the starting eleven at Merthyr tomorrow.
Manager Jon Newsome is hoping to strengthen a frail back line which has not helped Gresley’s cause this season.

“I was hoping to bring in a centre half but it is a busy time of year for football clubs and also, our finances dictate where we can look for a replacement. We thought we had one with Gary Knight but he chose to move nearer home to reduce travelling after just a week with us.

“I don’t want to bring some one in for the sake of it. I want someone in for now and the future who will help us build something.

“Evans is in the squad and I’m contemplating playing him. He has stepped up his training and says he feels fine, and even if he lasts an hour then we are likely to be better off.

“The Merthyr game is about the toughest we could have right now as they are flying and we are not, and with us it seems to be one extreme or the other. It’s a long way to go and we could use every excuse in the book but we will go there in a positive frame of mind and, hopefully, put on a good performance.

“It would be nice to go there and get a result and prove a point to a few people and be in good spirits for our home game on Boxing Day.

One slight doubt for Newsome is midfielder Craig Hopkins who is suffering from a slight ankle injury but he is expected to be in the squad.
