Dolby: the best is still to come
Story courtesy of Burton Mail
Gresley coach Steve Dolby revealed after Saturday’s classic final: “We were shocked by how well Guiseley performed.”
But he vowed: “We can play a lot better in Tuesday’s replay.”

Dolby confessed: “We will approach the replay differently. The preparation at Wembley was disappointing to say the least – a lot of players’ minds were on other things and we didn’t have enough time in the dressing room.

“We will sit down before the replay and think about where things went wrong. We knew they were going to play with two wide men in midfield and the only thing left to decide on the day was who was going to push into the middle – John Barry or Scott Elliott. I have to say now that I don’t think it worked.

“We left too many open spaces and that’s one of the things we’ll have to block up. Now we know a lot more about their forward line we’ll decide what we’re going to do with them.

“We can certainly do a lot better job than we did on Saturday. I don’t think Guiseley can certainly raise their game into a more consistent 90-minute performance.

“There were some aspects of our play that were outstanding like the commitment to the fightback and the determination not to lose. But overall we didn’t do ourselves justice.”

Dolby revealed that the biggest surprise was Guiseley’s Paul Annan – singled out by scour Kenny Blair as their danger man – being left on the substitute’s bench and said: “He was a major influence when he came on.”
