Rovers' seal of approval

Gresley Rovers have received an official seal of approval from Derbyshire police over their match day safety policy.
The club's certification is being hailed as a milestone at the Moat Ground with club officials believing Rovers could be the first club in the Dr Martens League to have their "statement of intent" officially endorsed by the police.

Said Moat Chairman Mark Evans: "It's our policy to have a statement of intent between ourselves and Derbyshire Constabulary setting out our responsibilities and theirs on match days. It concerns ground safety and crowd management and includes thing like pre-match briefings between police and stewards and defines their respective duties as recommended in the Taylor Report into the Hillsborough Stadium disaster.
We've had 10 months of discussions with the police over this policy."

As part of the policy, Rovers contact teams due to visit the Moat Ground to request details of the number of visiting fans expected, how they intend to travel to the ground, if the club intend to bring their own stewards and if there is a history of crowd problems.

Said Evans: " We're very proud to have had the policy signed by the police because we don't believe there are many other clubs who have achieved it. We have a very sophisticated ground safety policy and I'm very proud of all the hard work our chief steward, Kenny Hogg, and his team have put into it."
