Rovers head for sell out

Gresley Rovers are heading for a sell-out crowd at Saturday’s FA Vase semi-final tie against Littlehampton Town at the Moat Ground.
Ticket sales have rocketed as the Moatmen’s impressive run towards Wembley continues, firing the imagination of soccer fans in South Derbyshire and beyond.

About 1,800 tickets out of a limit of 2,100 have been sold so far, and even fans of Gresley’s Unijet Sussex County League opponents have been burning the telephone wires to Gresley chiefs inquiring about more.

Gresley secretary Peter Jenkinson said: “The sales are going very well. I understand Littlehampton have sold their 400 allocation, because I’ve got people from there ringing up now.

“We have got about 300 tickets left, but by the time the players have sorted their’s we will probably have about 100 left.”

Among the biggest crowds at Gresley was 2,400 fans who turned up for a Bass Charity Vase clash between Derby County and Wolves.

Rovers’ immediate focus, however, is tonight’s Derbyshire Senior Cup semi-final replay at Matlock (7.30pm).

Gresley goal ace Carl Rathbone makes the trip after a two-game lay-off sparked by a neck injury, which cost him a place in the 2-2 Moat Ground clash against Matlock last week.
