Gresley Go Seven Up

Gresley can be pleased with their evening's work on a sweltering night in Oadby as they took their chances when they arrived to roll Town over in this pre-season friendly.

As per usual plenty of players were used but the Gresley manager is slowly building the squad that will start the league campaign in August.

Missing from tonight's line-up was Matt Roome and Rob Peet who are both on holiday but Jamie Barrett made another appearance.

Gresley got the glimpse of a chance on ten minutes when Courtney Meade fired a shot straight at the Town keeper. However, two minutes later he did get on the scoresheet with a shot which beat the keeper with the help of a slight deflection.

Meade was working hard and he was rewarded for his endeavour when he chased a ball over to the bye line. He then turned and lobbed a shot form an audacious angle and over the head if the keeper and into the far top corner of the net.

Town got on the board with a well taken goal of their own. Ethan Bibby collected the ball on the edge of the area, turned and belted an unstoppable shot past Gresley keeper Ben Gough.

Meade continued to worry the opposition defence and he almost added to his tally when he chased a ball beating the keeper to it he then slipped the ball across the face of goal and just wide of the far post.

Another player causing Town problems was Tandai Chitiza. He latched on to a loose ball reacting far quicker than the defence before slipping the ball past the keeper. It was then Ryan Walker's chance to add to the tally but his well struck shot flew wide of the post.

The first half ended with Meade completing his hat-trick. Barrett sent over a high long ball which Meade controlled well and despite being hounded by two defenders managed to get his shot off beating the keeper once more.

Changes were made for the second half but Gresley's dominance continued where it had left off. Within two minutes of coming on as a substitute Matt Melbourne made it five shooting home from close in.

Town's substitute goalkeeper had his palmed warmed with shots from substitutes Michael Pearson and Lucas Harrison who both struck fiercely hit shots.

Another goal looked certain to arrive as Town began to wilt in only their second friendly so far. It duly turned up with Melbourne making a fine run down the right before cutting into the area and smashing his low shot into the net.

The seventh and final goal came with seven minutes remaining when Lynas King steered the corner from the right into the net with the help of a deflection.

The score shows it was comfortable game for Gresley but the work rate and the way they took their chances was highly commendable.
