Borrowash Victoria vs Gresley Rovers

Borrowash Victoria 3 - 3 Gresley Rovers

Gresley had the better of the first half exchanges and both Mick Collins and Chris Cowlishaw tested Cooney before the latter should have put them ahead in the 25th minute.

Colin Walker lofted a searching through ball over the Borrowash defence but Cowlishaw after bringing ti under control screwed his shot wide from close-range.

Five minutes later the Moatmen did get their reward. David Bacon deserves much of the credit because after picking up Walshe's pass he got round the back of the Borrowash defence and touched the ball back into the path of Ian Earley who was left with a simple scoring chance.

The second half was only minutes old when Tommy Keogh a half-time substitute levelled. A mistake by Nigel Steele left him with only Martin Dowey to beat and after touching the ball past the oncoming keeper he was left with an unguarded net to shoot into an unguarded net to shoot into.

Borrowash pressed forward and several times were unlucky not to take the lead. Ray Lewis beat Dowey but Dave Camm came to the rescue with a timely clearance.

With the Gresley defence all at sixes and sevens again Keogh hit a shot which struck the outside of the post before rebounding back to a grateful Dowey.

Gresley began to gradually sort themselves out and David Bacon after good approach work by Collins and Cowlishaw was only fractionally wide of the target.

Then after Walker had chipped a free kick over the Borrowash wall Cowlishaw sawa shot superbly turned over by Cooney.

In the 77th minute Gresley did regain their lead. Cowlishaw started a neatly worked three man combination by shielding the ball away from Fearn, slipped the ball through to Bacon whose ensuing cross was volleyed in by Mick Collins for his third goal in two games.

Borrowash levelled from the penalty spot after Kevin Bourne had pushed Fearn. Dowey did well to save Dilk's initial penalty kick but was powerless as Campbell followed up to tuck in the rebound.

Two second half substitutes combined to provide Gresley with what they must have thought would be the match winner when Mick Heard headed in Merrill Capenerhurst's free kick at the far post.

But, with their next attack Borrowash forced a share of the honours with a third goal from Ray Lewis.
